Caring for custom made curtains

Almost all custom made curtains are unique, so the methods used to care for them differ. It’s vital that before undertaking any cleaning at all, you contact Country Blinds for advice on proper care for the fabrics you have in your home, otherwise you may void your warranty if an incorrect cleaning method is used.

Regular care

  • Your Country consultant can advise if gentle vacuuming could work for your curtains. For some designs, a soft vacuum brush attachment can be used to get rid of dust.
  • Can your curtains be removed and aired out? Again, check with your Country consultant first. Some designs are simple to remove and can be hung in a sheltered area outdoor – perhaps under a patio – to air.
  • Sometimes a spray deodoriser can be used, but check with your Country consultant to be sure that the brand and formulation is right for your fabrics first. Take care to follow the directions and apply it only sparingly – read the label to be absolutely sure of how best to use the product.

Deep cleaning

All curtains will eventually need deep cleaning. How you go about this will depend on the type of fabric they’re made from. Often dry cleaning will be the answer, but the best method will vary depending on the design and material. Remember that various curtain designs differ in how they are hung or attached. This is another good reason to check in with Country for advice on how to go about safely removing your custom made curtains before they’re cleaned.

Getting the best from your custom made blinds

Custom made blinds are available in hundreds of different fabrics. Again, the best approach to caring for them is to check with your Country Consultant for the specific methods that are best for your particular material. However, just like custom made curtains, some cleaning basics apply to all types:

  • Gently dust your custom blinds from time to time.
  • Check with Country to see whether a vacuum with a soft brush can be used over the full length of the blinds and around the fittings, too.
  • For any problem marks, contact us for advice, however baby wipes are often a great solution. But test it on a small area that isn’t obvious first.

If your blinds are heavily soiled, check with a Country Blinds consultant to be sure you’re doing what’s best for your fabric before bundling your blinds away for deep cleaning.

Timber plantation shutters

Timber plantation shutters by Country are crafted in pure Paulownia timber, which is strong, very stable and won’t warp or twist. It’s a low-maintenance material, however, even shutters made from Paulownia timber occasionally require some TLC (Tender Loving Care) if they’re to give a lifetime of service and look their best.

  • Dust your plantation shutters regularly to prevent a thick build-up of grime.
  • Use a soft cloth, a dry or slightly damp sponge, or baby wipes when cleaning the slats of your plantation shutters.

If you feel the need to use a domestic cleaning spray or similar, carefully read the label before using and begin by testing in an area that’s not easily visible. Once again, if you have any concerns, contact a Country Blinds consultant before you start cleaning.

Aluminium venetian blinds

Aluminium Venetian Blinds really are an easy-care choice and should continue to function perfectly and look great for many years given correct care:

  • Dust your aluminium Venetians regularly with a soft cloth or duster.
  • Light cleaning can be taken care of with a damp sponge, baby wipes or a mild domestic cleaning spray.

Aluminium Venetian blinds are a breeze to clean, but be sure to handle them gently to avoid accidental damage or creasing to slats.

Outdoor blinds, awnings and shutters

Outdoor blinds and awnings by Country are created using durable materials that shrug off dust, rain and harsh UV rays, so it follows that care of these installations is simple and fuss free:

  • When dusty, most awnings can simply be cleaned with a soft brush or even washed clean with a garden hose.
  • Roller shutters should be regularly cleaned with a bucket and sponge using water or a mild detergent.
  • Outdoor roller blinds can be sponged or even hosed clean to remove dust.
  • Clear café blinds should be sponged clean with water and, if necessary, finished with a soft cloth or chamois.

Custom made curtains, blinds, shutters and awnings by Country – designed for easy living.

Over three decades of listening to customer feedback, Country Blinds have evolved and refined their designs to make cleaning and caring for them as easy as possible for homeowners and business operators alike. This can be seen in Country’s selection of low-maintenance, easy care fabrics as well as installations that are easy to remove for cleaning.

Country’s fabric backing on traditional custom made curtains responds better to cleaning and drying than the rubberised coating used as backing by many other suppliers. Hanging and attachment points of curtains and blinds have also been designed wherever possible to work without tools. A good example of this is the Velcro attachment tabs used on Country’s panel glide blinds. These tabs make adjustment and attachment of panels simple so that replacement or removal can be done easily by virtually anyone when the time comes for panels to be cleaned.

All designs by Country Blinds have been created with easy cleaning and maintenance in mind so that they continue to look as good in years to come as they did on the day they were installed. This focus on ongoing ease of care is just one more demonstration of Country’s commitment to providing customer satisfaction that continues long after the installation is complete.
