Sewing Machinist – Job Description

We are a family owned business of over 30 years with a strong focus on community and employing local craftspeople. We are looking for an experienced casual Sewing Machinist
(leading to Full Time if desired by you)

to work with our great team at our Mt Barker manufacturing facility. Your duties will provide an integral part of the manufacture of curtains, blinds, awnings and other various in-door and out-door products. Prior experience making curtains, awnings, fabric welding and/or sewing, leather work or pattern making is favourable but not a necessity as training will be provided. To be successful, you will have machining experience, a positive “can do” attitude and ambition for learning new skills.

Responsibilities:

This position involves, but not limited to:-

  • Work independently with minimal supervision after training
  • Cut, measure, sew and machine a wide range of curtain and blind products.
  • Set up and operate equipment and machinery
  • Adherence to Quality Control procedures
  • General housekeeping and cleanliness
  • Assisting other production and factory staff

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years machining experience.
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Experience in manufacturing Curtains, Awnings, fabric welding and/or sewing, leather work or pattern making is looked upon favourably.
  • Willingness to learn is essential.
  • Enjoy the scope to be a creative thinker.
  • Ability to work in a highly energised and enthusiastic team.
  • Be able to work flexible hours
  • Understanding mathematical calculations and numerical data
  • Ambition to lead a small team when required (after training)
  • Some computer knowledge is favourable
  • A medical examination may be requested
  • Understanding and commitment to safety in the workplace
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to foster positive relationships with all staff
  • Have a great outlook on life and a desire to work with a spectacular team
